About The Customer
Elsevier is a global information analytics business specializing in science and health. It combines content with technology to help institutions and professionals turn information into actionable knowledge, improving performance for the benefit of humanity. Elsevier has experienced a period of acquisition and growth, positioning itself as a leader in the research and scientific community. The company aims to provide substantial value to researchers, funders, and stakeholders by leveraging its existing suite of products, content, capabilities, and data.
The Challenge
Elsevier faced the challenge of integrating its diverse suite of products, content, and capabilities to create a unified platform that adds substantial value to researchers, funders, and stakeholders. The rise of Open Science, free access, and free tools disrupted the research and scientific community, necessitating a holistic view of Elsevier's offerings. The challenge was to leverage existing resources to create a product that not only supports but anticipates the needs of various research facets.
The Solution
GlobalLogic, through its experience design arm Method, designed a new product experience for Elsevier. This new platform and portal leverage Elsevier’s existing suite of products, content, capabilities, and wealth of data to create a smarter system. The design process involved using real data to ensure accuracy and relevance, which was crucial given the target audience's sensitivity to academic material. The project also involved an inclusive, collaborative process with eight key stakeholders, each a subject matter expert in a different segment of academia. By involving all stakeholders in the process of discovery, exploration, definition, and refinement, alignment on the vision and experience was achieved.
Operational Impact
  • The new platform supports and anticipates the needs of various research facets, enhancing the user experience.
  • The design process involved real data, ensuring the platform's accuracy and relevance to the academic community.
  • An inclusive, collaborative process with key stakeholders ensured alignment on the vision and experience.
  • The platform leverages Elsevier’s existing suite of products, content, and capabilities, creating a smarter system.
  • The project facilitated data collection and anonymization, streamlining the process internally.
