About The Customer
Schneider Electric, headquartered in Paris, France, is a global specialist in energy management and automation. With over 180,000 employees across 100 countries, Schneider Electric focuses on developing connected technologies and solutions to manage energy and processes in ways that are safe, reliable, efficient, and sustainable. The company has a strong presence worldwide, with more than 65 offices in over 35 countries. Schneider Electric is known for its ability to evolve with the times, continuously adapting to new technologies and market demands. The company is committed to innovation and sustainability, aiming to provide solutions that enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. Schneider Electric's dedication to digital transformation and employee engagement is evident in its efforts to modernize communication and strategic planning processes, as demonstrated by its collaboration with Kollective Technology, Inc. to create a digital Leadership Forum.
The Challenge
In past years, Schneider Electric faced challenges with its traditional Leadership Forum, which involved flying around 1,000 leaders to Europe for a yearly corporate strategic planning event. This approach had become cost-prohibitive and inefficient, as only a small fraction of the employee base was present, leading to a loss of momentum by the time the message reached everyone else. Additionally, Schneider was missing out on the opportunity to engage with the majority of its employees firsthand. To remain competitive and continue attracting and retaining talent, Schneider decided to transform its 2015 Leadership Forum into a high-quality online production, similar to a news or sports show, embracing digital and social tools.
The Solution
Schneider Electric partnered with Kollective Technology, Inc. to create an innovative digital Leadership Forum. The solutions implemented included Kollective's Software Defined Enterprise Content Delivery Network (SD ECDN), Network Readiness Test, and MediaCenter. The SD ECDN was used to stream high-quality live video without impacting the network, while the Network Readiness Test assessed network impact and performance prior to the event. MediaCenter served as the portal for employees to experience the live event and access archived content. Kollective's SD ECDN provided high-quality delivery assurance through a software-defined overlay that runs on top of the existing network, creating a distributed mesh network. This minimized bandwidth usage and prevented network bottlenecks. The Network Readiness Test allowed Schneider to simulate the event and identify potential viewing issues, which were addressed in collaboration with IT. MediaCenter offered a customizable portal with robust engagement capabilities, including employee authorization and authentication for a secure solution.
Operational Impact
  • Employee Reach: By transitioning to a digital Leadership Forum, Schneider Electric was able to directly reach a significantly larger number of employees than before.
  • Engaged Employees: The new format fostered an environment where employees felt empowered and engaged, actively participating on the company's internal social network during the event.
  • Video-Prepared Executives: Live video became an integral part of Schneider's corporate culture and communication strategy, with executives and employees expecting its use.
  • Network Issues Prevented: The Network Readiness Test identified potential network issues, allowing Schneider to address them before the event, ensuring a smooth experience.
  • High Quality, Flexible Delivery: Schneider provided high-quality video delivery to all employees without negatively impacting the corporate network, with Kollective's SD ECDN adapting to network conditions.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Cost Reduction: The digital format resulted in a 20x reduction in overall costs by eliminating the need to send over 1,000 executives to Paris annually.
  • Employee Reach: The 2015 Leadership Forum was broadcast to employees across 55 countries, reaching 35,000 live viewers.
  • Global Reach: Subsequent events reached over 75,000 employees globally.
