The Challenge
OmniPanel faced the challenge of scaling their data layer to meet the growing needs of their customers. As they built out their technology stack, they realized that their existing data infrastructure would not be able to handle the increasing volume of customer data and the complexity of analytics required. They needed a solution that could scale efficiently without requiring significant overhead for deployment. The challenge was to find a database solution that could support their expanding data needs while maintaining high performance and low query times.
The Solution
OmniPanel evaluated several solutions and found Firebolt to be the most suitable for their needs. Firebolt offered a performance that was 15 times faster than their existing Postgres database, with an average query time of less than 500 milliseconds. To further enhance performance, OmniPanel restructured their data model from a 21-table 3rd normal form to a denormalized 3-table structure. This change allowed them to leverage Firebolt’s aggregating indexes, reducing query complexity and improving speed. Firebolt's team collaborated with OmniPanel to provide best practices and recommended schema and query changes, ensuring the database could scale as OmniPanel's customer base grew.
