About The Customer
Slingeland Ziekenhuis is a Dutch short-stay hospital that plays a central role in the Achterhoek region. The hospital has 348 beds and a staff of over 1,600 full-time employees. Slingeland Ziekenhuis caters for virtually all medical specialisms and offers medical training for areas including internal medicine, clinical psychology and tropical medicine. By providing an excellent patient experience and optimizing the access times (wait times), the hospital has been able to increase its market share over the past few years. The hospital uses a data warehouse and management information system by InfoReports, based on Microsoft solutions.
The Challenge
Slingeland Ziekenhuis, a Dutch short-stay hospital, was facing challenges due to drastic changes in the healthcare sector. The partial privatisation of the hospital market required hospitals to determine the total cost of medical treatment. Additionally, hospitals were gradually losing their fixed compensation for running their facilities. Slingeland Ziekenhuis decided to restructure its internal organisation to better respond to these changing market conditions. However, the hospital's standalone reporting system was inadequate for managing the reorganised hospital through KPI measurements. The hospital needed an end-to-end management information system that could quickly answer ad hoc management questions and adequately respond to new market developments.
The Solution
Slingeland Ziekenhuis implemented QlikView, a reporting and analysis dashboard, for six critical result areas: Financial, Staff, Customer & Market, Process and Quality & Safety. The implementation was completed in just one and a half weeks. The Financial QlikView dashboard provides insight into the revenue, staff costs and material expenses broken down into various levels, such as medical specialism, cluster, insurer and DBC. The Staff dashboard presents information on hospital processes such as FTEs, absenteeism and collective labour agreements. The dashboards are designed in line with the hospital's house style and all stakeholders are sent relevant dashboards and reporting via email.
Operational Impact
  • Daily KPI measurements
  • Business Discovery capabilities for business analysts.
  • The simple benchmarking framework enables quick corrective action where necessary.
  • Drastically improved insight into costs versus revenue per DBC and the use of diagnostics equipment, resulting in increased efficiency.
  • The organisation now thinks in terms of measurable results (SMART objectives)
