About The Customer
The customer in this case study is one of America's largest non-profit agricultural advocacy organizations. They were shipping nearly 3,000 annual shipments, predominantly within their state, with almost 80% of these shipments being HAZMAT (farm equipment, agricultural products, batteries, etc.). As they prepared to expand their operations into more states, they urgently needed a shipping software that could support HAZMAT, provide API connections to their ecommerce platform SuiteCommerce, and integrate into their ERP solution NetSuite. They also needed automation to drastically cut the cost of manual processes and make arranging shipments more efficient.
The Challenge
One of America's largest non-profit agricultural advocacy organizations was struggling with outdated, manual shipping processes. They were shipping nearly 3,000 annual shipments, predominantly within their state, with almost 80% of these shipments being HAZMAT (farm equipment, agricultural products, batteries, etc.). As they prepared to expand their operations into more states, they urgently needed a shipping software that could support HAZMAT, provide API connections to their ecommerce platform SuiteCommerce, and integrate into their ERP solution NetSuite. They also needed automation to drastically cut the cost of manual processes and make arranging shipments more efficient. However, they found that not all shipping software or TMS solutions could support HAZMAT shipping, leading to wasted time in contract negotiations and training for a trial that ultimately proved unsuccessful.
The Solution
FreightPOP provided the solution the customer needed. It supported HAZMAT shipping by complying with carrier requirements, automating required documents, and featuring tools to identify carrier discrepancies on HAZMAT material fees that did not match quotes. FreightPOP also offered powerful API connections and integrations, allowing the customer to receive, update, and track orders from external applications, support for hundreds of standard and custom integrations, and connections with carriers across all modes. Furthermore, FreightPOP streamlined the shipping process by pulling shipping invoices electronically, enabling rate shopping across multiple carriers inside a single screen, and providing auditing tools to replace ineffective manual processes. This allowed the customer to find carrier invoice discrepancies and recover their money.

The company has a long track record of innovative technology solutions. For example, 3M helps its customers optimize parking operations by automating fee collection and other processes. To improve support for this rapidly expanding segment, 3M needed to automate its own data collection and reporting. The company had recently purchased the assets of parking, tolling, and automatic license plate reader businesses, and required better insight into these acquisitions. For Fox and his team, these requirements meant turning to the cloud instead of an on-premises datacenter. “My first thought was to go directly to the cloud because we needed to provide access not only to our salespeople, but to resellers who didn’t have access to our internal network,” says Fox. “The cloud just seemed like a logical choice.”
