About The Customer
Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) is a leading provider of warehouse equipment sales, rental, and service. The company is part of Toyota Industrial Equipment, which began production in Japan in 1956 and has since become a global leader in the forklift industry. TMHA imported its first forklift into Australia in 1968 and has sold over 30,000 units in the country. By 2017, Toyota was recognized as Australia's top forklift company, holding a market share of approximately 40% by 2018. As a large corporate entity, TMHA is subject to stringent auditing requirements to ensure compliance with both government and internal standards. The company is committed to maintaining the reliability of its financial reporting and governance processes, aligning with the standards set by its parent company, Toyota Industries Corporation.
The Challenge
Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) faced stricter auditing requirements due to its growth and classification as a large corporation. The company needed to fulfill both government and internal auditing requirements, which included comprehensive annual governance audits. TMHA's parent company, Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), required the establishment of an appropriate internal control system to maintain the reliability of financial reporting. A dry-run audit identified several remediation requirements, including the inability to fully trace financial database changes and the need to tighten controls around vendor authority. These issues were significant deficiencies that TMHA couldn't fix internally, necessitating a robust solution to address these challenges.
The Solution
To address the identified challenges, TMHA implemented Precisely's Assure Security solutions, specifically the Assure Monitoring and Reporting and Assure Elevated Authority Manager components. These solutions were chosen for their ease of use and ability to handle the large number of tables in TMHA's Infor M3 application. Assure Monitoring and Reporting provided the necessary granularity for auditing without overburdening the system, while Assure Elevated Authority Manager automated the process of granting and revoking vendor access. With the help of consulting and implementation services from Precisely's business partner, Kantion, the implementation was fast and efficient. The solutions allowed TMHA to close vendor access to the M3 system database by default and automate the management of vendor authorities, significantly improving the auditability of the M3 database.
Operational Impact
  • TMHA and its auditors now have increased confidence in their ability to audit and control access to data and systems.
  • The automation of vendor authorization processes has eliminated human errors and reduced manual effort.
  • The graphical user interface of Assure Security solutions has simplified and streamlined administrative processes, saving time and reducing the chance of human error.
  • The level of granularity in Assure Monitoring and Reporting's reports ensures critical information is neither lost nor overwhelming, striking the right balance for effective auditing.
Quantitative Benefit
  • TMHA's market share in Australia reached approximately 40% by 2018.
  • Over 30,000 Toyota forklifts have been sold in Australia.
