About The Customer
The customer in this case study is the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC). SBCTC is an enterprise-level organization that oversees 34 colleges across Washington State. They were in the process of rolling out new software across several campuses and were facing challenges in training their employees on the new system. The responsibility of creating training materials and designing the instructional process was entrusted to Corinne and Gretchen. They were committed to providing a great training experience to their co-workers and were seeking a solution to make the process more efficient and effective.
The Challenge
The Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) faced a significant challenge when they decided to roll out new software across several campuses. The primary issue was how to effectively train employees to use the new system in a scalable manner. Corinne and Gretchen, who were in charge of instructional design, realized that creating training material for the new system was going to be a substantial task using their current workflow. They also identified that employees were struggling to find answers to their questions about the new system. The creation of content was not only time-consuming, but once it was created, it was not easily accessible or searchable for the employees. The training process became overwhelming due to the lack of well-established resources and workflows.
The Solution
To overcome these challenges, the team decided to invest in ScreenSteps, a solution designed to simplify the documentation process. ScreenSteps provided an organized platform for implementing the new system, making it easy for employees to browse and search for the information they needed. The software allowed for the creation of easily accessible and searchable training materials, significantly reducing the time and effort required to train employees on the new system. Live training sessions were also enhanced by incorporating ScreenSteps tutorials, providing a more comprehensive and effective training experience. This solution not only streamlined the training process but also ensured that resources were readily available to the end-user when needed.

Fundacio Puigvert, a leading European medical center specializing in Urology, Nephrology, and Andrology, faced a significant challenge in training its surgical residents. The institution recognized the need for a more standardized and comprehensive training curriculum, particularly in the area of robotic surgery. The challenge was underscored by two independent studies showing that less than 5% of residents in Italian and German residency programs could perform major or complex procedures by the end of their residency.
