About The Customer
The customer in this case study is a client of PredictX, a company that specializes in predictive expense analytics. The client required a solution that could provide greater insight into their Employee Generated Spend (EGS), which includes a wide variety of expenses such as office equipment, meal delivery, entertainment, and more. The client needed a solution that could not only control costs but also ensure good governance and accountability to shareholders. They had a specific requirement for the solution to be deployed on the Google Cloud Platform due to its security and governance features.
The Challenge
PredictX, a leading provider of predictive expense analytics, faced a challenge when a client required greater insight into their Employee Generated Spend (EGS). The client needed a solution that could provide a comprehensive view of various expenses, ranging from office equipment to meal delivery and entertainment. The challenge was not only to control costs but also to ensure good governance and accountability to shareholders. PredictX had a solution that could meet these needs, but it was not cloud-based. The client had a specific requirement for the solution to be deployed on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) due to its security and governance features. While PredictX had plans for a cloud-based offering in the future, they needed to expedite this process to meet the client's needs.
The Solution
PredictX decided to use the Actian Data Platform to provide a hybrid deployment on Google Cloud and on-premises. This platform is a fully managed data platform that provides integration and warehouse services, delivering high performance and scale across all dimensions – data volume, user concurrency, and query complexity – at a fraction of the cost of other solutions. It can be deployed on-premises as well as on public clouds, including Amazon Web Services, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. This allowed PredictX to migrate their existing Vector database to the Actian Data Platform, preserving existing business logic and code while providing a cloud-based solution. The Actian Data Platform was easily connected to the tracking systems where the client’s EGS data existed, and the AI and predictive analytics tools that PredictX had been running on Vector also easily connected to the Actian Data Platform without needing any major modifications.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.
