About The Customer
DataXion is the largest data center in North Africa. It is a major player in the IT industry, providing critical data storage and management services. Given the climate in North Africa, managing energy consumption is a significant challenge for DataXion. The company is committed to ensuring energy optimization and maximizing energy consumption while maintaining a high level of service. DataXion is also dedicated to choosing the best equipment and solutions to implement in its data center to ensure the highest level of efficiency and reliability.
The Challenge
DataXion, the largest data center in North Africa, was faced with the challenge of ensuring energy optimization and maximizing energy consumption while achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.6. Given the climate, energy consumption was the primary challenge for this data center. The task was not only to manage the energy consumption but also to provide the best choice of equipment and solutions to implement. The challenge was to find a solution that could provide a safe and consistent power supply, maximize system efficiency, improve energy efficiency within the data center, and provide precise air handling for the proper operation of IT equipment.
The Solution
DataXion turned to EcoStruxure for a solution. EcoStruxure IT Advisor, EcoStruxure IT Expert, and connected products like Galaxy™ 7000 UPS, In Row Cooling, LV Switchgear, Uniflair™, and EcoAisle™ were implemented. The UPS provided a safe and consistent power supply solution. The inverters were used to maximize system efficiency by up to 99%, keeping valuable operating costs low (energy savings), but also ensuring optimal power quality. EcoAisle, a containment solution, was used to improve energy efficiency within the data center. The cooling Uniflair solutions were implemented to provide precise air handling for the proper operation of IT equipment.
Operational Impact
  • The implementation of EcoStruxure solutions led to significant operational improvements for DataXion. The company saw a 35% energy savings and a 30% cost savings in maintenance. There was also a 20% cost savings on engineering, commissioning costs, and time optimization. The workforce comfort improved by 20%, leading to a more productive and efficient work environment. The availability of the data center was increased with Schneider Electric inverters. The functionality of IT equipment was strengthened, leading to increased energy efficiency and overall improved performance of the data center.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Potential Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) less than 1.6
  • 30% cost savings in maintenance
  • 35% energy saving
