About The Customer
ANDRITZ GROUP is a global company headquartered in Graz, Austria, that supplies and services complex, high-value plant equipment for various industries including hydropower stations, the pulp and paper industry, the metalworking and steel industries, and for solid/liquid separation in the municipal and industrial sectors. The company operates in 120 countries, including remote and politically unstable regions, making the safety and security of its staff and worksites a paramount concern. As a key technology supplier, ANDRITZ needs to ensure that it can deliver equipment and materials securely to sites and that its personnel can conduct work safely.
The Challenge
ANDRITZ GROUP, a global supplier and servicer of complex, high-value plant equipment, faced significant challenges in ensuring the safety and security of its staff and worksites across 120 countries, including politically unstable regions like Central Africa and the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The company needed to deliver equipment and materials securely to these sites and ensure that its personnel could conduct work safely. The responsibility of putting infrastructure and operating procedures in place to allow this fell on the company’s corporate security function. The security team at ANDRITZ relied on a multi-layered, intelligence-led risk assessment process, collecting information on historical incidents and emerging threats from a variety of data sources. However, with so many sites spread across the world, the team needed a more efficient and effective solution for risk assessment and incident monitoring.
The Solution
ANDRITZ turned to Everstream Analytics, a predictive risk analytics company, to provide risk assessment and incident monitoring solutions. Everstream’s Risk Assessment tool uses a broad range of data sources to build a picture of the exposure of specific locations to more than 35 different categories of risk, including natural disasters, political instability, and terrorist activity. The system generates risk “heat maps” that provide an overview of the risk situation in different regions, with coding down to the street address level for detailed risk analysis at individual sites. ANDRITZ also uses the platform’s Incident Monitoring tool to provide near real-time alerts on incidents and events that could affect site operations or disrupt transport routes and modes. The company can filter the alerts they receive based on the locations of its project sites and other relevant facilities, ensuring they receive the most relevant incident information.

Smart Water Filtration Systems
Before working with Ayla Networks, Ozner was already using cloud connectivity to identify and solve water-filtration system malfunctions as well as to monitor filter cartridges for replacements. But, in June 2015, Ozner executives talked with Ayla about how the company might further improve its water systems with IoT technology. They liked what they heard from Ayla, but the executives needed to be sure that Ayla’s Agile IoT Platform provided the security and reliability Ozner required.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.
