About The Customer
Upper Chesapeake Health is the primary healthcare system in Harford County, Maryland, in the United States. It is dedicated to creating the healthiest community in the state. The organization has 2,700 team members and 550 medical staff physicians. In the world of healthcare, UCH strives to comply with strict regulations, maintain advanced medical capabilities and equipment, keep costs down, and differentiate itself from other providers. The organization was looking for a solution to streamline its operations and ensure continued high-quality patient care while growing the organization.
The Challenge
The University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health (UCH) was facing a significant challenge in maintaining productivity due to cumbersome manual processes. These processes were not only slowing down operations but also making it difficult for the organization to comply with patient privacy and security regulations. The manual onboarding process for new employees and the process for closing accounts and access when an employee left the organization were particularly time-consuming. These processes, while compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 and other patient privacy and system security regulations, were taking an inordinate amount of IT staff time and attention. The organization was in need of a solution that could streamline these processes and accommodate growth without compromising on patient care.
The Solution
UCH adopted Nintex Workflow 2010, a solution that works with its existing Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. This provided UCH developers with easy-to-use tools to automate complex processes. The organization was able to automate workflow processes such as identity lifecycle management, employee evaluations, and capital requests. The intuitive drag-and-drop workflow designer of Nintex Workflow was particularly appreciated by UCH's developers. The automated workflows were integrated into the tools already in use by UCH employees, such as Microsoft Outlook, making the transition seamless. The adoption of Nintex Workflow 2010 allowed UCH employees to devote themselves to more valuable work that ultimately improved the health and wellbeing of the UCH community.
Operational Impact
  • The adoption of Nintex Workflow 2010 resulted in enhanced employee productivity and improved operational efficiency and transparency. The solution was easy to use and was well received by the developers at UCH. The automation of workflow processes freed employees from manual processes, allowing them to devote themselves to more valuable work. This ultimately improved the health and wellbeing of the UCH community. The solution also helped UCH to streamline operations and ensure continued high-quality patient care while growing the organization. The automated workflows were integrated into the tools already in use by UCH employees, making the transition seamless and ensuring a high adoption rate.
