About The Customer
Beta Epsilon is a design company that specializes in designing racing cars and offering engineering services to automotive racing car providers and racing companies. They have been responsible for the design of the Formula Renault 2010 and the Formula Premium 2013 cars, among others. In addition to full vehicle design, the company also provides suspensions designs and CFD development. Outside the automotive industry, they also supply services for additional branches such as the mechanical engineering industry. Beta Epsilon is a specialized team of 4 to 5 engineers, working mainly for the motorsports and mechanical engineering industries.
The Challenge
Beta Epsilon, a design company specializing in racing cars and engineering services for automotive racing car providers and racing companies, faced a significant challenge in their development process. The company was responsible for a wide range of engineering tasks, including the meshing of parts and full vehicles, the FEA analysis of components, crash test simulation, optimization, and CFD analysis. In the design of a complete racing car, the engineers design and optimize every single part of the vehicle, simulate crash tests, simulate the CFD performance of the car, and push the test for FIA homologation before they or the customers start the production or build a prototype. To handle all of these tasks, Beta Epsilon needed a flexible and cost-efficient access to several CAE tools, some of which were used more frequently than others. However, due to the need to minimize development cost to offer their customers services at competitive prices, it was not feasible to invest in every single full license of each required tool.
The Solution
Beta Epsilon turned to Altair’s solutions, particularly HyperWorks and the HyperWorks licensing system, to address their challenge. This provided them with access to almost all CAE tools they needed in their development process, including HyperMesh, OptiStruct, HyperCrash, RADIOSS, AcuSolve, HyperView, and Virtual Wind Tunnel. The flexible unit-based HyperWorks license system replaced expensive paid-up licensing types for each single tool, with a pay-per-use system for all of the included tools. This allowed Beta Epsilon employees to simultaneously access not only the HyperWorks suite, but also a broad range of complementary third-party programs and other Altair products at no extra cost. Beta Epsilon chose an annual leasing contract which enabled them to work with any tool the HyperWorks suite provides, giving all their engineers access to the appropriate solution for each task they had to handle.
Operational Impact
  • The use of HyperWorks and Altair’s flexible licensing system has significantly improved Beta Epsilon's operational efficiency. The company is now able to deploy the appropriate solution for each problem or task, enhancing their ability to handle a wide range of engineering disciplines. This has also enabled them to offer a broader range of services to their customers, thereby increasing their market reach. Furthermore, they have access to a responsive and good technical support, with quick answers and good trainings, which has improved their overall operational efficiency. The flexible licensing system has also allowed them to cut down on software expenses, making their services more cost-effective.
Quantitative Benefit
  • Accelerated the development process
  • Cut down software expenses
  • Improved product quality and efficiency
