About The Customer
The University of Deusto is a renowned center for university education with over 125 years of experience and campuses in Bilbao and San Sebastian, Spain. The university is known for its training in skills and values, specialized research, commitment to justice, and international projection. It hosts more than 1,500 international students, with 15% of all Deusto students coming from outside of Spain, representing over 60 different countries worldwide. The university is committed to maintaining high-quality standards and is continuously seeking ways to improve its processes and systems.
The Challenge
The University of Deusto, a Spanish educational institution with a rich history of 125 years, was faced with the challenge of implementing Internal Quality Assurance Systems (IQAS), a requirement mandated by the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The EHEA states that universities must have formally established and publicly available Internal Quality Assurance Systems. The University of Deusto believed that a Business Process Management (BPM) tool was the most suitable solution for this requirement, given the process-oriented nature of quality systems and the significant advantages of automating these systems. However, the university's Technical Unit for Innovation and Quality (TUIQ) needed to have the capacity to design, build, and implement the processes with as much autonomy as possible. This posed a significant challenge as this new task would be added to their existing responsibilities.
The Solution
After a comprehensive study of potential solutions and consultations with various providers, the University of Deusto chose the AuraQuantic BPM Platform. The platform's features perfectly aligned with the university's needs. The initial goal was to create a pilot project of the 'Teaching Organization and Planning' process from the faculty of Social and Human Sciences, which was successfully completed in March 2009 with the assistance of Consultec, an AuraQuantic partner. Encouraged by the positive results, the university set a more ambitious goal of constructing all the processes associated with the IQAS and implementing them across all university faculties. An important aspect of the solution was to involve the people who would use the tool in their daily work and ensure a gradual change in their working habits.

Predictive Maintenance for Industrial Chillers
For global leaders in the industrial chiller manufacturing, reliability of the entire production process is of the utmost importance. Chillers are refrigeration systems that produce ice water to provide cooling for a process or industrial application. One of those leaders sought a way to respond to asset performance issues, even before they occur. The intelligence to guarantee maximum reliability of cooling devices is embedded (pre-alarming). A pre-alarming phase means that the cooling device still works, but symptoms may appear, telling manufacturers that a failure is likely to occur in the near future. Chillers who are not internet connected at that moment, provide little insight in this pre-alarming phase.
