Automotive Data Solutions Inc. (ADS) faced significant challenges with their existing IT infrastructure. The licensing costs for the VMware vSphere hypervisor were prohibitively high, and the management of the virtual environment was overly complex. ADS had opened its first data center three years ago, utilizing Dell iSCSI SAN and NAS storage systems for backups. However, as the company virtualized its IT environment using VMware vSphere 5.5, it became apparent that the existing storage platform was not well-suited to the virtual environment. This led Marcello Gentile, the director of systems administration, and his team to search for a new storage platform that could better support their needs. The complexity of the legacy virtualization environment and the high costs associated with it were major pain points that needed addressing.

To address the challenges faced by Automotive Data Solutions Inc. (ADS), the company decided to migrate to the Nutanix Xtreme Computing Platform. This platform provided a turnkey solution with built-in virtualization and integrated management, making it simple to deploy, scale, and support. The migration began with the purchase of the Nutanix NX-3450 system, which allowed ADS to move its customer-facing website database and several other workloads over to Nutanix. The Nutanix Acropolis platform, which includes the Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV), was chosen for its ability to deliver enterprise-class storage, compute, and virtualization services for any application. Acropolis is a fully integrated IT solution that eliminates the cost and complexity of legacy datacenter products that are individually deployed and separately managed. The built-in hypervisor, based on proven open-source KVM technology, is hardened to meet enterprise security needs and offers enhanced security, self-healing capabilities, and enterprise-grade VM management. Additionally, Nutanix Prism was utilized to provide administrators with consumer-grade simplicity in managing their entire virtual environments, further reducing complexity and improving the overall user experience.
