EYMS, the UK's largest independent bus operator, was facing challenges due to the rising price of fuel. The company operates over 300 buses and coaches across various regions in the UK and employs over 800 people. Despite its reputation for high vehicle maintenance standards and service reliability, EYMS needed to find a solution to reduce fuel consumption and meet government-set fuel-saving targets related to the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG). The company explored various options and was particularly interested in solutions that did not require interfacing with existing telematics and vehicle information, as a significant portion of their fleet lacked an Engine Control Unit (ECU).

EYMS selected GreenRoad as their solution after evaluating various options. They initially implemented GreenRoad at their Elloughton depot and subsequently rolled it out across their entire fleet. To support the change in driver behavior, EYMS developed communication strategies, educational programs, and policies. All drivers received SAFED (Safe and Fuel-Efficient Driving) training, and new drivers were given a GreenRoad account from their first day. GreenRoad's solution provides real-time alerts to drivers, helping them maintain a safe and smooth driving style. This system acts as a 'vocal coach' in the cab, encouraging drivers to take responsibility for their improvement and take pride in their achievements.
