St. James Insurance Group, a pioneer in the insurance space, was facing skyrocketing IT costs, the need to protect its growing data and systems, and the ability to scale easily as needed. The company had initially deployed disaster recovery in the cloud to protect its own business and was looking to further minimize costs and create business agility by expanding its use of cloud to resource-heavy, production applications. However, finding a provider that shared their vision was a challenge.

St. James Insurance Group deployed [11:11]’s Disaster Recovery as a Service to protect its data and systems. The disaster recovery (DR) plan includes failing over to [11:11]’s Los Angeles data center, well away from the company’s home-base in Florida. Annual testing of the DR plan ensures confidence that it will work during a real disaster. The company also utilized [11:11]’s reservation plus burst capacity pricing model for a new application that looks at weather events and the costs of those events. This allows the company to pay a lower monthly rate for the compute resources it knows it needs, yet burst to extra capacity when required.
