Comcare's broad mandate requires secure and accessible IT infrastructure for users dispersed across the country. In 2018, Comcare decided to eliminate on-premise data storage and software, embarking on a major IT modernization project to support its operations and enhance its service delivery.

Comcare, Australia's national authority for workplace health and safety, faced the challenge of modernizing its IT systems by moving all on-prem infrastructure to the cloud. This transition aimed to facilitate secure data storage, remote work, organization-wide visibility, and an improved user experience. A significant challenge was the need for a centralized identity solution to allow employees and external stakeholders to access applications from a single login, ensuring simple and complete deprovisioning of employees. The existing system had three types of identities managed by different policies, making it difficult to deprovision individuals and posing potential security risks.

Comcare selected Okta as the identity solution to address its IT modernization needs. Okta's Integration Network provided ready-made integrations for many of Comcare's key applications, facilitating a single login for employees and users on any device. The implementation of Okta's core platform was completed within a week, with subsequent integration of applications like Office 365, finance, and HR systems. Okta's Single Sign-On and Multi-Factor Authentication ensured secure access and improved user experience. The cloud services team migrated systems to the cloud one at a time, ensuring complete visibility and effective deprovisioning. Okta's reliability supported Comcare's shift to remote work, maintaining availability even as usage increased.

Hospital Inventory Management
The hospital supply chain team is responsible for ensuring that the right medical supplies are readily available to clinicians when and where needed, and to do so in the most efficient manner possible. However, many of the systems and processes in use at the cancer center for supply chain management were not best suited to support these goals. Barcoding technology, a commonly used method for inventory management of medical supplies, is labor intensive, time consuming, does not provide real-time visibility into inventory levels and can be prone to error. Storage of supplies was also a key consideration given the location of the cancer center’s facilities in a dense urban setting, where space is always at a premium. In order to address the challenges outlined above, the hospital sought a solution that would provide real-time inventory information with high levels of accuracy, reduce the level of manual effort required and enable data driven decision making to ensure that the right supplies were readily available to clinicians in the right location at the right time.
